Upon entering residency, each resident is assigned a research advisor, chosen from the Research Committee on an alphabetical basis. The goal of this program is to provide the residents with the necessary support to identify and initiate a rewarding research project and to provide a constant research resource throughout the residency program, with the understanding that the specific research interests of the resident and advisor may well differ. Residents will meet with their research advisors quarterly during the PGY-1 year to facilitate the selection of a thesis research project and faculty mentor, after which meetings will take place yearly to provide progress updates.
ROLE OF THE RESEARCH ADVISOR
- Introduce PGY-1 residents to the resident research program
- Assist PGY-1 residents in identifying a thesis research project and faculty mentor.
- Aid residents in rectifying research-related issues should difficulty arise.
- Ensure that the residents make appropriate progress, meeting yearly progress goals
- Provide independent help with preparation of abstracts, papers, grant submissions, and talks
